    The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Leonard Francis as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective from April 2, 2024. Succeeding the esteemed Mr. Peter Knight, who led the agency with distinction until his retirement on March 31, 2024, Mr. Francis is set to continue the legacy of excellence in environmental stewardship and planning.

  • NEPA’s Response to Negril Seagrass Crisis

    The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) notes the concerns expressed by hoteliers in Negril regarding the clearing of seagrass from affected beaches. The unusually high volume of seagrass, seaweed and debris on the Negril shoreline was as a result of the recent weather event, i.e., a cold front and the associated storm surge, combined with heavy rainfall on the western end of the island. The storm surge deposited mounds of the material onto shore.  

  • Update – Harbour Head Fish Kill

    The National Environment and Planning Agency’s (NEPA) has served German Ship Repair Jamaica Limited, the operators of the Kingston Dry Dock in Harbour Head, a notice to suspend their environmental permit under section 11 (1) of the NRCA Act.

    The notice of suspension is served on the company for non-compliance with seven (7) conditions of the environmental permit granted to them in 2019. The company has until December 31 to become compliant.

  • GSRJ Environmental Permit Reinstated

    The Natural Resources Conservation Authority/National Environment and Planning Agency (NRCA/NEPA) have taken a decision to reinstate the environmental permit of the German Ship Repair Jamaica Limited (GSRJ) following a meeting with its management team today, 22 December, 2023.
