The Sharon O’ Connor Documentation Centre

The Sharon O’Connor Documentation Centre is a specialized library of the National Environment and Planning Agency, and is a Unit of the Agency’s Public Education and Corporate Communication Branch. The library is a merger of collections from the libraries of the Natural Resources Conservation Authority (NRCA) and the Town Planning Department (TPD). It was named after Mrs. Sharon O’Connor who was a trained geography teacher who later joined the staff at the Natural Resources Conservation Division (NRCD) and the NRCA as an information officer.Mrs. O’Connor, who died in 1993, had the responsibility to develop and implement programmes to sensitize Jamaicans from all walks of life on the importance of environmental matters and played a major role in the activities associated with the launching of the NRCA. The Documentation Center is a member of the Government Libraries and Information Network of Jamaica (GLINJA) and the Library and Information Association of Jamaica (LIAJA).

Our specialized collection contains literature covering environmental and planning topics in various format such as:

The services provided by the Documentation Centre includes the following:

  • Ask a Librarian 
  • Online Catalogue
  • Reference/referral services
  • Loan service (staff only)
  • Reprographic services (Photo copying and scanning)
  • Binding
  • Laminating

  • Inter-library loan (staff only)

  • Preparation of bibliographies and booklists

  • Wireless internet access (WIFI)

  • Viewing in-house and loans of audio-visual collection 

 

Opening Hours & Contact Information

The Documentation Centre is accessible to the public  by appointment between the hours  of  09:00 a.m.  to 4:00 p.m. Monday  to Friday, excluding holidays. Our friendly and efficient librarians are willing to help you identify the information you need and direct you to alternative sources if we do not have it in-house. Online Catalogue

Search our Online Catalogue, it provides a list of the Agency's collection of books, magazines, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), monitoring reports, research papers,  journals, newspaper articles, et. al on  mainly environmental and planning issues.  Some documents in our catalogue can viewed online or downloaded.
