The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) is reporting that the Yallahs Pond is the source of the strong odour detected across the Corporate Area.
The Agency and the Ministry of Health have conducted investigations into these reports. The investigations found that the Yallahs Pond is presently emanating a strong stench and is the source of the pervading odour.
The Agency on Thursday (November 6) received several reports of a strong odour from several sections of Kingston, St. Andrew and St. Thomas.
In September of last year, the Agency received similar reports of a foul odour and investigations later revealed that the Yallahs Pond was the source of the odour.
Last year's incident was resolved by releasing the natural berm on the Yallahs Pond thereby allowing sea currents to circulate and mix the pond water, ultimately eliminating the stench. The National Works Agency (NWA) was responsible for those works. The NWA has been contacted to implement a similar solution.
