The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), is advising that the Rosedale Sewage Treatment Facility in St James which is owned and operated by WICHON has developed a major mechanical problem, which has resulted in the release of raw sewage into the Spot Valley River.
The mechanical problem which started on Saturday (March 11) is related to both the active and redundancy pumps at the facility.
WICHON representatives are currently at the facility working to address the problem. A NEPA Enforcement officer is also on location to ensure that the malfunction is addressed.
The river is used down-stream by community members for domestic purposes. NEPA is advising community members to refrain from using the river until advised by the St James Public Health Department or NEPA.
