The Natural Resources Conservation Authority (NRCA) and the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) have filed an affidavit of response to the Jamaica Environment Trust (JET) request for a judicial review for approvals granted to the National Works Agency (NWA) to undertake shoreline protection works along the Palisadoes strip. The affidavit was filed on May 12, 2011 in the Supreme Court.
In its affidavit, the NRCA and NEPA denied claims made by JET against both entities and asked that the orders sought by JET be denied.
The NRCA approved an environmental permit and a beach licence in 2010 for NWA to undertake shoreline protection works. The work being implemented involves rehabilitating dunes, improving shoreline protection on the seaward side, raising and widening the road and constructing a boardwalk on the harbour side of the Palisadoes strip.
