National Workshop on Land-Based Sources of Marine Pollution

The National Workshop for stakeholders concerning Land-based Sources of Pollution to the Coastal and Marine Environment was held on January 15 16, 2008 at the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel in Kingston, Jamaica. The workshop was hosted by the NEPA in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme, Caribbean Regional Coordinating Unit (UNEP-CAR/RCU).

The main objectives of the workshop were to disseminate information on the obligations and the benefits of the Protocol Concerning Land-Based Sources of Pollution to the Marine Environment of the Wider Caribbean Region (LBS Protocol); sensitize stakeholders on issues of environmental monitoring and waste management as they relate to marine pollution from land-based sources and activities; and assess the status of Jamaica in ratifying the LBS Protocol.
