MEDIA RELEASE -  October 13, 2009

Come Sunday, November 8, 2009 Jamaica will join twenty-nine other countries to mark World Town Planning Day (WTPD) under the theme:  ‘Building Better Communities’. Several activities have been organized by the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), to commemorate the event. Among the plans is an Outside Broadcast (OB), which will be aired on POWER 106 FM on WTPD, at 9:00 a.m.

The broadcast is scheduled to coincide with the national church service which will be held, this year, at the Fellowship Tabernacle in Kingston.  A mini poster exhibition will also be mounted on the church grounds. In addition, newspaper supplements will also be published in the Gleaner and Jamaica Observer dailies during the period. They are intended to provide greater insight to the public about the role of town planning in building better communities across Jamaica.

World Town Planning Day was founded in 1949 by the late Argentinean Professor Carlos Maria della Paolera of the University of Buenos Aires to advance public and professional interest in planning, internationally.

NEPA is encouraging persons to consume and reflect on the information to be published/ broadcast during the period to mark World Town Planning Day.
