PRESS RELEASE - September 12, 2007

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) advises that all hunters who purchased Hunters’ Licences for the previously announced Bird Shooting dates of September 1 to September 30, 2007 are to return these licences with immediate effect to their respective vendors. These licences are invalid, as the dates for the 2007 Bird Shooting Season have been rescheduled to commence on September 8 and end on September 23, 2007.

Under the Wild Life Protection Act, it is against the law to engage in bird shooting activities without a valid Hunter’s Licence. The licence must at all times be in the possession of the hunter, as during the course of hunting, the licence can be requested for scrutiny by monitoring personnel. Failure to possess a valid Hunter’s Licence can result in a Resident Magistrate awarding a maximum fine of One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000.00), or imprisonment for a term not exceeding twelve (12) months.

Hunters are being asked to return all previously purchased licences for the September 1 to September 30, 2007 dates to their respective vendors. New licences reflecting the new dates will be issued free of cost.

The Agency apologises for any inconvenience caused.
