Public Service Announcement - March 08, 2007

It is crocodile nesting season and the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) would like to remind the public to stay away from known crocodile habitats. The nesting season runs from February to August each year and during this period the animals at their most aggressive.  

All persons living in or near a river-course or wetland areas are being asked to take special care at this time. Crocodiles are likely to attack if their young or eggs are threatened. If you MUST enter or work in marshy or wetland areas, please exercise extreme caution.  

NEPA would like to remind the public that IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO HARM THESE ANIMALS. Crocodiles are protected under the Wild Life Protection Act. If you kill or maim these animals, you could be fined up to $100,000 or twelve (12) months imprisonment, if convicted. Please do not molest or kill crocodiles, regardless of circumstances or locations.
