Come Thursday, July 5, 2007 the
National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) will present its first
annual Health and Wellness Fair at 11 Caledonia Avenue, in Kingston.
On show will be a wide array of health services, products and
promotions companies. They will conduct several health tests,
including rapid HIV, blood sugar and blood pressure tests and
counselling services.
The fair is the start of what
NEPA hopes will be an annual event and will kick off its Corporate
Wellness Programme. As part of the project, health specialists and
other personnel will be invited to the Agency at least once every
other month to make various presentations on a topical health related
issue.
Speaking at the roll-out of the
project, Karlene Hamilton Reid, NEPA’s Senior Personnel Officer,
indicated that: “we (NEPA) have always been aware of the need to care
for all areas of our employees’ needs, not just the physical work
environment and everyday human resources concerns but the total
development of the staff.”
In addition to the above named
services, members of the Ministry of Health’s Healthy Lifestyle
Project will make a presentation on “Chronic Lifestyle Diseases”.
A Nutrition Team from the Rural
Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) will be on hand to
demonstrate how to prepare healthy meals on a budget.
A dental health unit from the
Ministry of Health (MOH) as well as teams from toothpaste manufacturer
Colgate Palmolive, CARIMED, Glasko Smith Kline (GSK) and Nestle will
also participate.
Members of staff will also be
treated to onsite meditation and aerobic training tips. The all day
expo which gets underway at 9:00 a.m. will feature several booths and
lots of information.
