The National
Environment and Planning Agency has teamed with the Jamaica
Information Service– Television Division, to produce and air a series
of features focussing on the natural environment and work of the
Agency.
The first
production of this collaboration will be aired on Jamaica Magazine
on May 2, 2007. The television feature, which will be ten to twelve
minutes long, will focus on Jamaica’s endangered and protected
animals. Jamaica Magazine is aired on Television Jamaica (TV-J)
at 5:00 p.m, CVM Television at 5:30 p.m, and Love TV at 8:00 p.m.
The feature
will focus on Jamaica’s endangered and protected animals and highlight
both local and international laws that protect these species. It will
also provide the public with insight on how to protect our natural
treasures. NEPA and the JIS hope that the feature will help to educate
Jamaicans and visitors alike about the dos and don’ts in purchasing
and exporting flora and fauna from our shores.
The planned
series will serve to clarify the role and functions of NEPA, as well
as explore some common misconceptions of what the Agency can and
cannot do under law, and examine planning and environmental
legislations. The features will also examine the ways in which the
Agency balances its planning, land use and environmental portfolios.
They will also highlight protected areas across the island, the role
and functions of our various ecosystems and the role of the public in
preserving our natural treasures.
