The National Environment and Planning Agency
(NEPA) wishes to advise the following:
On November 8, 2006, Hojapi Limited was granted
licences under the Beach Control Act, to: 1) perform capital dredging
from the floor of the sea adjoining Pear Tree Bottom and 2) perform
reclamation on beaches located on the property. The extent of these
activities and where the dredged materials are disposed of are
determined by these licences.
Under the conditions of the licences, Hojapi is
permitted to use the dredged materials for reclamation purposes.
NEPA has received reports of illegal sand-mining
being carried by persons near Pear Tree Bottom, St. Ann. The Agency
has begun its investigations into the allegations; however, NEPA would
like to advise the public that the matter of illegal sand-mining is a
criminal offense and is the responsibility Island Special Constabulary
Force (ISCF) and the Commissioner of Mines.
Where this activity impacts the permitted
conditions of any licences or permits issued by the Natural Resources
Conservation Authority (NRCA), NEPA will take appropriate actions.
