Oil Spill in Kingston Harbour

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), along with a multi-agency team is at this time responding to an oil spill in Kingston Harbour. The spill is located between the Petrojam Oil Refinery and the Jamaica Public Service (Hunts Bay) Power Station.

The Agency received a report at approximately 9:00 a.m. today from the Marine Police who were on patrol in the Harbour. The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Coast Guard visited the scene earlier today and conducted the initial investigations. NEPA and Marine Police are now at the site conducting further assessments.

The Agency has contacted the ODPEM, Maritime Authority, Petrojam and the Port Authority to get additional assistance to investigate the spill.

The Agency will provide updates on the oil spill as more information becomes available
