The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) is aware of complaints that some hunters are overshooting the required bag limits as well as outside of the permitted hunting sessions. NEPA would like to invite your support in helping to make the 2010 Bird Shooting Season sustainable, by reporting breaches while they are occurring.
Failure to report breaches when they occur will result in some hunters being afforded an unfair advantage. This ultimately puts the entire Season in jeopardy. If you observe a breach while hunting, please contact Richard Nelson at: 508-8081, or the Control Centre at: 754-7567.
The bag limit for each hunter is twenty birds, at each session, of which only fifteen should be White Crowned Pigeons. Hunting sessions are from sunrise to 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to sunset on Saturdays and from sunrise to 9:00 a.m. on Sundays. Hunters are asked to adhere to the shooting times and bag limits.
Hunting outside of the stipulated times or shooting more than the required numbers of birds is a breach of the Wild Life Protection Act (WLPA). Failure to adhere to the provision of the law will result in prosecution. A person guilty of for breaching the Wild Life Protection Act (WLPA), on conviction is liable to a fine of up to one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000), and/or imprisonment not exceeding twelve months.
