NEPA serves Enforcement Notice on the National Water Commission
Thursday, 23 Sept 2010

The National Environment and Planning Agency has served an Enforcement Notice on the National Water Commission, NWC. The Notice was served on September 23, 2010 under Section 18 of the Natural Resources Conservation Authority Act.

The Notice concerns the discharge of untreated sewage from a broken sewer main which leads into a drain in the Seaview Gardens community, and empties into Hunts Bay. This activity poses a serious threat to Public Health and to the Natural Resources.

As per the conditions of the Enforcement Notice attached, the NWC has 24 hours to repair the broken sewer main and cease the discharge of the untreated sewage. They have also been instructed to clean up the drain after the repairs have been done.

NEPA takes the opportunity to remind the public that it is taking a zero tolerance approach to breaches of the country’s environment and planning laws. The Agency will bring the full weight of the law to bear on those individuals or entities found to be in breach.
