Hunter charged for being in possession of protected birds
Thursday, 26 Aug 2010

One man has been charged for breaching the provisions of the Wild Life Protection Act (WLPA), for the 2010 Bird Shooting Season at Reach, in the parish of Portland on Sunday, August 22.

The hunter was discovered to have in his possession two Ring Tailed Pigeons, which are protected under the WLPA. He was charged for having in his possession two protected birds and is expected to appear in the Manchioneal Resident Magistrate Court on September 16, at 10:00 a.m.

NEPA is maintaining its ‘zero tolerance’ approach to the hunting and or possession of protected birds during the 2010 Bird Shooting Season and is advising all hunters to adhere to the requirements. Failure to adhere to the provision of the law will result in prosecution. A person guilty of breaching the Wild Life Protection Act (WLPA), on conviction is liable to a fine of up to one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000), or imprisonment not exceeding twelve months.
