Joint NEPA Team responds to fish kill in Kingston Harbour

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) is aware of a fish kill in the Kingston Harbour. According to reports, hundreds of dead fish begun washing a-shore in the vicinity of the Harbour Friday morning.

NEPA has organized a joint team comprising members of the Veterinary Services in the Ministry of Agriculture and the Jamaica Defense Force (JDF) Coast Guard. Contact has also been made with the Marine Unit at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona campus.

The team is, currently, on location collecting water and fish samples and conducting preliminary investigations, including interviews. Samples will be sent to the NEPA laboratory where they will be tested and a further update provided to the media/ public as more information becomes available.

In the meantime, NEPA is advising the public NOT to consume fish taken from the Kingston Harbour.
