Jamaican environmental specialists will gather at the Terra
Nova All Suites Hotel, Kingston, on June 14 and 17 respectively, 2011 to review
the Caribbean Invasive Species Strategy (CISS).
The workshop will focus on Invasive Alien Species which are non-native plants
and animals which threaten native plants and animals. Examples of invasive alien
species are the lionfish, the mongoose and the wild ginger.
The Strategy is intended to address the identification and eradication or
control of Invasive Alien Species in Jamaica and the Caribbean Region as well as
to support development of a comprehensive guide to the identification and
control of Invasive Alien Species.
The focus for Tuesday, June 14 will be on Marine (Sea) invasive alien species
Strategies while Strategies for Freshwater and Terrestrial invasive alien
species will be looked at on Friday, June 17, 2011.
The sessions are between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm on both days.
