Chemical Leak at the Kingston Container Terminal

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) has been advised that there has been a chemical leak at the Kingston Container Terminal (KCT). ‎

It has been reported that this substance is a Pesticide - chemical name: Butile Mercaptan. The ODPEM along with the National Environment and Planning Agency, the Jamaica Fire Brigade and the Ministry Of Health have been alerted and are working with the KCT to resolve the situation.

‎The ODPEM is urging that all persons travelling in the vicinity of the Portmore Highway are advised to do so with their motor vehicle windows up and the air conditioning unit off until they have passed the KCT terminal facilities.

The ODPEM will continue to monitor the situation and further updates will be provided as the situation demands.
