Sunday, 19 Dec 2010

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) has learned that the ‎Container with the leaked Pesticide - Butyle Mercaptan has not been resolved. Despite the temporary seal and its relocation to an isolated area at the Kingston Container Terminal (KCT) facility it is reported that the container is still leaking.

‎The ODPEM along with the National Environment and Planning Agency, the Jamaica Fire Brigade and the Ministry Of Health are currently at the scene and are working with the KCT to resolve the situation.

Motorists travelling in the vicinity of the Portmore Highway are being urged‎ to continue to take the necessary steps as a matter of caution. Proceed with their motor vehicle windows up and the air conditioning unit off until they have passed the KCT terminal facilities.

The ODPEM will continue to monitor the situation and further updates will be provided as the situation demands.
